The next morning Rakan learns a bit more about the world Chigusa, Narushige and Koh come from like how they do not have metal, plastic, electricity or television. All off their things are made from plants.

Rakan’s goes outside to do some yard work (it’s his day off from school). As he is working he starts to feel a bit overwhelm by the events that have taken place and by the new information he learned that morning. He still believes Chigusa and Narushige are good people but now he is concern about who he really is (who is he and why does he have the face of a prince).

As Rakan is contemplating his existence one of those creepy, crawling creatures appears (this one is much bigger). It’s called an Ayame. It goes in for the attack and just when it’s about to pierce Rakan, Chigusa jumps in and is severely stabbed. Narushige begins to race outside to fight but Chigusa takes out his gun and kills the giant Ayame (take that you creepy, crawling Ayame?).

Rakan runs over to Chigusa who looks like he’s badly injured. There is blood all over his body. Chigusa opens his shirt (at the request of a very worried Rakan) his blood quickly transforms into badges healing his wounds instantly.

Chigusa reveals to Rakan that his blood is partly made up of plant material that instantly heals his injuries and even if the plant material were to die out with a Sanome nearby he can be brought back to life. Chigusa reveals this information to Rakan in the hopes to easy his worry but instead it infuriates Rakan so much that he slaps Chigusa right across the face. Rakan is upset that Chigusa has such a low value for his life and also by the fact that he is selfish to think that he would not be affected by seeing Chigusa. As if Chigusa getting injured and hurt will have no effect on him what so ever. Rakan storms off in tears.

Narushige advises Chigusa to apologize to Rakan. Chigusa leaves the backyard to look for Rakan. Narushige starts to wonder if Chigusa is suppressing his emotions to avoid feeling anything.

Chigusa finds Rakan in the bathroom washing his face. Rakan apologies for slapping Chigusa across the face. Chigusa responds by saying that he liked being hit by Rakan. In fact it’s really the only way for him to get the message because he doesn’t feel much pain.

Then Chigusa has a realization. He thinks that maybe he actually does have the capacity to feel because when he saw Rakan cry he experienced an emotional feeling, a feeling of happiness. Rakan thinks it’s a bit strange (it wasn’t the response he was expecting) but it ultimately leads to them making up.

Later that night while Rakan slept in his bed with Chigusa sitting at his bedside (on the floor) Narushige enters the room and sits next to Chigusa. They both start to wonder what their world would have been like if Rakan had been their prince.

So that the last chapter of Silver Diamond volume 1. Looking forward to the next volume and what adventures the 3 amigos (oops, forgot about the Koh) will get themselves into.

This Chapter provides us with background information on Rakan and additional information on Chigusa.

Rakan’s Information

15 years ago a woman with amnesia (Rakan’s mother) lands in a lonely old man’s backyard with her two year old son (Rakan). The old man gladly accepts the 2 of them into his family. For several years the 3 of them live happily together until 2 years ago when Rakan’s mother dies and a year after that his grandfather (the old man) also dies leaving Rakan alone but not without some money which he inherited from his grandfather.

Present Time:

Rakan is abruptly awakened from his sleep by Chigusa who smashes and destroyes his alarm clock (Chigusa thought it was a dangerous creature – easy mistake to make. Alarm clocsk are loud and annoying when you’re trying to sleep). They get up and have breakfast. Chigusa tells Rakan that they both come from the same place which explains why Rakan is able to transform things like a seed into a gun. And because of this rare ability, Chigusa decides to stay close to Rakan because he is a very valuable creature and he looks so much like his Imperial prince.

Chigusa Senroh’s Information

Back in the other world, the bullet that Chigusa shot (which was aimed at the prince) pierces the imperial building (it looks like a flower growing out of a wall). Onlookers comment that they should try removing the bullet or do something to remove the sight from view. A man named Kingen Kinrei appears and orders them not to touch it that it will die off. Then the Imperial prince arrives. The onlookers ask him about Chigusa. He tells them that “the unlucky color of silver is no longer in this world and that the Senroh clan ha[s] died out.” Apparently the Silver Senroh clan aka Sengin were prophesied as bring misfortune (to whom I wonder) which explains why so many of the onlookers detest Chigusa.

After this news is revealed to the onlookers, a few of them state that they saw Chigusa’s body covered in blood and arrows and that he was definitely dead. A few among the crowd turn their attention to Shigeka Narushige (who is among the group of onlookers). They harass him for being a man with a pretty face but it quickly ends when Narushige’s companion, Koh, a talking snake, appears snapping at them and thus sending the harassing men running. Just as Narushige and Koh are about to meet the person who summated them to the Imperial building they are surrounded by a swirl of wind and vanish!

Back to Rakan’s World

Chigusa waits outside Rakan’s school to pick him up. This totally freaks out Rakan, his classmates, and teachers (what’s a grown man doing at a high school? They think it’s a bit suspicious) Rakan goes out front to calm the situation down (the girls are all delighted because they find Chigusa very handsome and a teacher thinks Chigusa is a pervert).

Rakan and Chigusa leave the school and head for home but they stop off at the shops to get Chigusa some new clothes (can’t have him looking like a person from another world – can we?)

When they arrive home they find Narushige standing in the backyard. Narushige is shocked to find the criminal who shot at the prince standing before him) he calls upon Koh who turns into a sword and Chigusa draws out his weapon as well.

Chigusa asks Rakan to bring a twig from the gun tree. Rakan gets the twig and as he is walking toward the two of them the twig breaks and blossoms into a beautiful tree branch with flowers. This twig transformation plus the resemblance of Rakan to their prince shocks both Nirushige and Koh.

Rakan invites everyone inside. Rakan, Chigusa, Nirushige, and Koh sit down for dinner (even with people dropping in from another world you still gotta eat)

The plot increases in chapter 2 (I loved it). What new info will be revealed in chapter 3 Watering? On to the next chapter…

After an identity mix-up (the strange man thinks Rakan is his Imperial Prince who he tried to kill before being transported to this new world) and a run in with a creepy, crawling creature, Rakan and the strange man go inside.

While inside, Rakan tries to make sense of what has happened (what has happened?) He learns that the stranger’s name is Chigusa and he came from another world. For some reason unknown to Rakan Chigusa continuously calls him a Sanome (a person who can grow plants at will). Rakan then questions Chigusa about the mysterious gun that looks like a tree branch. Chigusa informs Rakan that the gun is a branch and the branch is a gun and that Rakan is the one who made it materialized (you know with him being a Sanome and all).

It’s really a lot of new and unbelievable information for Rakan to take in so he decides to switch his focus onto dinner. He instructs Chigusa to take a bath while he prepares dinner. There’s one problem with that. Chigusa is from another world and has not idea what or how to take a bath. So, Rakan has to go into the bathroom to teach Chigusa how to bath. He is a bit embarrassed but hey Chigusa really has no clue (Despite the hectic day, I think things are looking pretty good for Rakan).

After Rakan and Chiguse finish up with the bath Rakan goes and prepares dinner.

Chapter 1 Silver Seed is certainly interesting. There seems to be a lot of ways for this story to play out. There’s already a few questions I’m asking myself like what is Rakan, how did Chiguse arrive, and why did he arrive. Looking forward to Chapter 2 Golden Thread

It took some time to get to it. I don’t really know why but I finished it and I have to say that I really like it.

I’d seen the cover of Silver Diamond before but always passed it over. I find it kind of difficult to find new manga to read if I never heard of it or read a preview of it. With Vassalord I read a preview of it in one of the anime magazines that has since shut its doors. I had an initial idea of what I was getting myself into with Vassalord but with Silver Diamond I had no clue. So I was a little hesitant to start reading it. What if I don’t like or what if the characters are unrelateable and on and on I went but I had to give it a chance. I mean if someone took the time to comment and suggest a manga I could at least read it (not like I had any other manga to read).

Well, I’m glad I did. I worried for nothing (such a waste of energy)! Rakan, Chigusa, Narushige, and Koh (so far) have kept me plenty entertained. Silver Diamond Volume 1 Sliver Seed has a good plot and the relationship between each character has great potential. Volume 1 thus far has laid a solid foundation by providing a bit of background information on each character but holding back on the detail thus having me beg for more.

Silver Diamond Volume 1 is about Rakan Sawa who’s a junior in school and lives alone in a house that has an incredible garden which he tends to on a daily basis. His life seems pretty normal (minus the incredible garden) until a mysterious man drops out of nowhere into his backyard. Chigusa, this mysterious man, is from a another world and he has found his Samome (a person who can make plants grow at will) and vows to stay close be Rakan’s side – he must protect Rakan. Of course Rakan finds it all unbelievable that he has this special skill and that this guy came from another world but being the good guy that he is he goes with it (why fight the truth, right?) So Rakan “tries” to accept the situation which only gets more intriguing when another guy from the same world, expectantly appears in his backyard as well.

So, now Rakan has 2 guest living with him (oh did I mention the other guy Narushige has a companion? A talking snake Koh. I don’t really like snakes but this snake isn’t too scary – thank goodness). Which isn’t too bad of a thing – both guys (and snake) seem like good people and they both consider Rakan a Sanome and wonder why he looks so much like their Imperial prince (a question I continually ask myself as well).

Silver Diamond has really peaked my curiosity as to how all these characters relate to one another and who Rakan is actually? I’m looking forward to volume 2 but until then here is the Silver Diamond Volume 1: Silver Seed summary chapter 1
