kashimashi-vol1 manga#1 The Day He Changed

Kashimashi (girl meets girl) begins with an introduction of the 17 year old male character Hazumu Osaragi. He has feelings for Yasuna Kamuzumi but when he goes to confess his love for her she turns him down.

In an effort to move on and forget about her Hazumu journeys into the Kashima Mountains while there he is struck by a spaceship. The alien, feeling just horrible about the incident, works on restoring Hazumu’s life and body. Unfortunately, during the process something irreversible happens.

The alien heads into town to reveal his identity to the townspeople (It’s part of the Interplanetary Life Preservation code). During his explanation he explains what has occurred on Kashima Mountains and how he was able to restore life into the earthling but he got the gender all wrong and now “he” is a “she” The alien then returns Hazumu to his parents and friends as a cute and busty girl.

Everyone is shocked by this startling information, even Yasuna (who apparently like girls and that was the reason why she turned Hazumu down).

#2 She Realized She was A Girl
So after being thoroughly examined by doctors, it is official Hazumu Osaragi is a girl. As Hazumu leaves for school with her friends they are bombard by reporters wanting detailed information on what it’s like to go from a boy to a girl. Luckily for Hazumu, she has Tomari by her side to protect her from the reporters and curious classmates.

While at school Yasuna requests a meeting with Hazumu in the music room. Once there, Yasuna confesses her love for Hazumu . . . Hazumu doesn’t know what to do after hearing this confession. She’s a girl now, what does Yasuna’s confession really mean? Hazumu races out of the music room and heads home.

At home, she discovers her closet is packed with girl clothes (bought by her mother). While she is inspecting the outfits, Hazumu hears a funny noise. To her surprise she sees a girl who looks very similar to her standing in her room with a space alien. The girl is actually the space ship that hit Hazumu in the mountains and the space alien is the alien who restored her life. The two of them have decided to live with Hazumu to observe her life.

#3 My First . . .
It’s time for Hazumu to get a bra and Tomari reluctantly aggress to take her. So, after school the two go shopping. Once there they run into Yasuna (Tomari isn’t please to see her).

Hazumu gets measured (she’s much bigger than Tomari) and asks Tomari to pick out a bra for her. Tomari doesn’t want to do this so an eager Yasuna step up to the plate and grabs several types of bras for Hazumu to try on. She even assists Hazumu in getting everything pushed and positioned correctly in the bra (seems as if Yasuna is really enjoying feeling Hazumu’s boobs!) Yasuna’s assistance upsets Tomari greatly. She decided she too will put in her two cents and pick out some bras for Hazumu.

After a tug-n-war with Hazumu’s body and breast Hazumu eventually decides on a few cute bras for herself. While Hazumu is at the checkout counter Tomari bluntly tells Yasuna to stop parading herself around Hazumu. Tomari reminds Yasuna that she dumped him and she needs to leave him alone (so isn’t basically, “Step off B!”)

As Tomari and Hazumu head home, Hazumu tells Tomari that she doesn’t mind being “just friends” with Yasuna. “Girls can’t have other girls as girlfriends”, she says.

#4 Tomari, Confused
Tomari is having a difficult time accepting the fact that her best “guy” friend is now a girl. She obviously had feelings for him when he was a boy but how does she feel now? Does she still have the same feelings for him, as a girl?

To Tomari, everyone is making Hazumu into a girl to the point that she feels the “real/boy” Hazumu will ultimately disappear.

While Tomari and Hazumu are walking home, Jan-puu (the alien) arrives. Tomari feels three is a crowd and excuses herself. Just as she has some distance between her and Hazumu she hears a ruckus. It’s the annoying reporters ambushing Hazumu.

Instinctively, Tomari rushes over and protects Hazumu, something she has always done ever since they were both children. It is at this moment that she realizes that nothing has really changed between her and Hazumu.He/she is the same Hazumu she grew up with.

#5 Hazumu’s Heart
Hazumu is starting to feel the effects of being a girl. Her parents are thrilled that they finally have a daughter (the father seems a little bit too happy) but Hazumu’s heart isn’t up for the change of liking boys instead of girls. Hazumu isn’t sure what to do.

At school Tomari nicely tells Hazumu that she needn’t rush into decisions, yet. She can just take her time. Later that day on the rooftop, Yasuna tires to kiss Hazumu. Hazumu starts to panic but luckily (or unluckily for Yasuna) Asuta arrives giving Hazumu a polite way of excusing herself from the rooftop and kiss.

#6 What Yasuna Sees
While having a series of “alien” tests performed on her, the aliens ask Hazumu who will she choose as her romantic interest? Hazumu can’t answer the question because in her mind she is a girl now and besides they are just “friends.” The alien brings up an interesting point though “does this planet have restrictions placed on romantic relations between members of the same sex?” This gets Hazumu thinking.

At school a new assistant teacher (of Biology) arrives, Sora Hitoshi (he’s actually the male alien living with Hazumu). While teaching his Biology class, Hitoshi notes that Yasuna does not see the other male classmates (not clearly at least. Just a shadow of their beings). Hazumu begins to understand this when he sees a drawing Yasuna created last year. All the girls are beautifully drawn but most of the male students are just circles, and straight lines all but Hazumu. From the neck down he is completely drawn but his face is incomplete.

#7 Girl Triangle
Hitoshi explains to Hazumu that his planet is on the brink of extinction and he is studying the “romantic’ relationships between Hazumu to help with his particular problem. Why? His people can no longer experience emotion so they can no longer experience sexual urges thus they are unable to reproduce.

It’s field trip time at school – Kashima Mountains! Hazumu agrees to guide Yasuna around and Tomari insist that she comes along as well. Both girls are adamant on drawing Hazumu. Yasuna draws Hazumu but this time she creates a detailed drawing of Hazumu’s whole face.

Back at school, Tomari ask Hazumu if she still loves Yasuna but quickly discards the question and heads-off. Then Yasuna pops-up! (luckily she didn’t hear Tomari’s question). They head into an empty classroom. Hazumu reveals how she saw Yasuna’s drawing. Yasuna explains that until she met Hazumu (boy Hazumu) she had never seen a boys’ face, not even her own father’s face with Hazumu she saw his face a bit better then the other boys. She goes on to explain how happy she was when he confessed his true feelings to her but she just couldn’t say it back. She worried that she would eventually stop seeing him. She apologizes for everything and runs out of the room in tears leaving Hazumu alone in the classroom.

While sitting in her desk, Hazumu realizes that she knows nothing about Yasuna. Yasuna quickly returns and marches straight towards Hazumu and lends over and gives her a kiss on the lips. The two hear a clatter and discover that Tomari has just entered the classroom.
