kashimashi-vol5#29 In the Bath Water
Yasuna and Hazumu just finished kissing (in the rain). Hazumu sneezes, Yasuna panics and ushers Hazumu into a hot bath to wash off and warm up. After both girls finished their bath they sit in Yasuna’s room drinking hot tea. Yasuna asks Hazumu if she regrets the kiss. Hazumu adamantly says no, she has no regrets. Yasuna is delighted to hear her answer. Hazumu soon leaves and starts to head home. Along the way she runs into Asuta, Ayuki and Tomari (they were out looking for her). She tells them about getting drenched in the rain and how she took a bath at Yasuna’s. They all totally misinterpret what Hazumu says and believes that she and Yasuna took a bath together.

Tomari in particular panics and quickly drags Hazumu back to her house and orders Hazumu into another hot bath. Hazumu gets into the bath (she doesn’t have much of a choice). As Hazumu starts to enjoy the warm water Tomari appears wearing only a towel. She tells Hazumu that she is going to take a bath with her just like Yasuna did. Hazumu quickly informs Tomari that yes the two of them took a bath but it was separately. Tomari gets totally embarrassed and runs out of the bathroom. Hazumu gets dressed and walks into Tomari’s room. The two of them sit on the floor with their backs against one another. They talk a bit. Tomari discusses how she still doesn’t trust Yasuna or Hazumu when they are alone together. Hazumu talks about how much the two of them know each other so well (because they grew up together)

Hazumu begins to think that it’s time for her to choose who she really loves. She can no longer continue running because time is running out.

#30 On the Eve of the Culture Festival

Hazumu asks the alien to give her the exact moment when her life will be over. He runs some more tests but it will take 2 days for the results to be in. During those days Hazumu spends most of her time thinking about who she loves and who she will spend her last hours alive with. She doesn’t’ want to leave with any regrets. She finds it very hard to decide and to add more to her worries her parents want to take her on a vacation overseas (what’s a girl, who has only a few days left to live, suppose to do?)

Meanwhile, Tomari and Yasuna have decide that they both will confess their love to Hazumu in order for her to choose the 1 person she really loves so together they will be able to share the same fate and thus saving Hazumu’s life.

Both Yasuna and Tomari confess their love separately to Hazumu. Their true, honest feelings really touch Hazumu’s heart.

#31 Report

On the first day of the Culture Festival the alien gives an observational report of all the people he has encounter on earth: Hazumu, Tomari, Yasuna, Asuta, Ayuki, Tsuki Namiko, and even Jan-Puu. He details how each one has matured, especially in the area of love. He repeatedly says during the report that the only thing he can do is to observe the situation (I guess he really wants to do more then just watch things unfold).

Later that day he informs Hazumu that she will die on the last day of the Culture Festival at midnight.

#32 The Last Day

It’s the last day of the Culture Festival and Hazumu, Tomari, and Yasuna continue to miss one another at the booths and events. Asuta runs into Hazumu and they grab a drink and talk. Hazumu mentions that fate is keeping her from spending time with Tomari and Yasuna but it really doesn’t’ matter since she won’t be seeing them any more after today. Asuta becomes very furious with Hazumu and slaps her.

Meanwhile Jan-Puu arrives at the festival and tells Yasuna, Tomari and Ayuki that Hazumu is going to die tonight. Yasuna and Tomari immediately run off looking for Hazumu. They’re trying to do whatever they can to change fate.

#33 Decision

Asuta tells Hazumu that fate has nothing to do with anything. That if she loves them then she must tell them the truth. Hazumu says it is pointless because the moment she says those words she is going to die. Asuta tells Hazumu that they’ve all known about her secret and that both girls have thought of nothing else but her the entire time. Hazumu is shocked and surprised. She strongly wants to see Yasuna and Tomari. She apologizes to Asuta and says she’s glad that he is her best friend and then she goes searching for the girls.

Hazumu ends up on the garden rooftop and soon afterwards both Yasuna and Tomari arrive there as well. Also, at that moment, the alien notices something peculiar with Hazumu’s results . . . there was a miscalculation. Hazumu won’t be dying at 12 midnight. She’s going to die at 6pm which is seconds away from occurring.

Hazumu begins to confess her love when a strong wind comes blowing through sending her into the fence near the rooftop edge. The fence begins to give way and Hazumu starts to fall from the rooftop.

#34 Connected Heart

As Hazumu is falling from the rooftop one of the girls leaps forward and tries to save her but they both go crashing to the ground. When Hazumu wakes up, she is in the nurse’s office. She gets out of bed and looks behind one of the curtains and finds Tomari lying completely still in bed. She rushes over and pleads for Tomari not to die. Tomari wakes u and smacks Hazumu on the head. She tells her “Shutup . . . God don’t go killing me off while I’m asleep, okay.” Tomari explains how the chain linked fenced acted like a mat to cushion their fall. She goes on to explain how her intent was not to fall but to get to Hazumu because in those last few seconds Hazumu called out her name.

Hazumu finally confesses her true feeling for Tomari. She says that from now on both of them will protect one another and she wanted to tell her this now before she dies. Tomari shows Hazumu a watch and it indicates that the time is 12:33(ish). Hazumu is still alive! The 2 of them promise to love one another forever and then they have their first passionate kiss.

The alien reveals to Ayuki that in the moment when Hazumu and Tomari were falling towards the ground both of their hearts were calling out to one another and it was in that moment that he transplanted Tomari’s fate gain into Hazumu.

Meanwhile, Yasuna stands outside the nurse’s office when Ayuki walks by. Ayuki asks Yasuna does it hurt. Yasuna says not as much as she thought it would. For her, as long as Hazumu is alive and smiling that is enough to make her happy. She then begins to breakdown into tears. Ayuki comforts her.

kashimashi-vol5b#35 Kashimashi
It’s been a month – everyone is attending the Christmas concert where Yasuna performs a beautiful musical piece. Afterwards, Hazumu finally gets a chance to thank Yasuna.

Hazumu, Tomari, Asuta, and Ayuki exit the concert hall. Hazumu and Tomari excuse themselves to pick up a few items for the after party. Once the two of them leave Sora (the alien) and Jan-Puu arrives. He informs Ayuki and Asuta about what he’s been up to for the month while on his home planet. He tells them that he is exiled from his planet for 100 years because he interfered with earth’s species (remember how he kept saying all he can do is observe? While he just couldn’t help himself – who can blame him) and as farther punishment he must continue his observation of “Love” on earth (talk about some punishment – he likes earth anyway). Ayuki asks if he needs a human collaborator during his observations. Sora says he’ll think about and they all head for the after party.

At the party which Tsuki Namiko is throwing for herself as a Christmas Eve and Birthday party (her birthday is on December 25) everyone is having a great time. Asuta takes this opportunity to show off a picture of the love in his life. It’s a picture of girl he met online and she looks very similar to Hazumu – coincidence – everyone thinks NOT!

And the manga ends with everyone enjoying the festivities.

Special #5 Secretive Ayuki-chan
These are short stories about Ayuki:
1 of how she always seems to appear out of nowhere
2 what club she is a member of
3 why is she always around Asuta.
They are all quite amusing . . . you’ll want to check them out.

Well that’s it of Kashimashi Volume 1-5. It took until the 5th volume for me for things to get really interesting. The other volumes were cute but volume 5 was the best. Overall, the manga has ended very well. I’m not left confused or needing more explanation. Way to go Kasimashi: Girl Meets Girl– Satoru Akahori! BRAVO!

Time to find another manga to read
