Chapter 5 begins with images of Rayflo floating in a pool of water (naked) and someone is calling out Addie. We see a hand reaching into the water and wrapping around Rayflo/Addie’s neck and this person then asks Addie, “who is restoring your radiance and where are you hiding?” Rayflo wakes up to find Charley standing over him in the bath tub. Charley asks what his Master is doing underwater not breathing (creepy!) He says Rayflo must be experiencing a senior moment. He has been absent-minded a lot lately. Rayflo is like yeah, may be I am. Then the two of them partake in a little wet and wild action.
While they are in the bath tub the doorbell rings. The maid goes to answer the door and the jerk cop is there. He immediately pushes his way into the apartment. He is looking all around the apartment for something or someone. Charley emerges from the bathroom (shirt off). The cop, once again, starts pushing his way into the bathroom. Charley struggles to keep him out stating that his Master is in there. Once inside the bathroom, they find it empty. Rayflo had turned into a bat and flew out the window before the cop busted into the room.
The cop, Craig Bernstein, abruptly decides he has to leave. Charley is really upset because this is the second time this cop has been a jerk towards him and his Master. The cop informs Charley that he knows that he was on the plane with Miranda Segal (the dead actress) and he knows that 2 other people jumped out of the plane with her. It’s only a matter of time before they discover their identities. He also tells Charley that they have identified the bodies in the crate on the plane. This news grabs Charley’s attention because it deals with Miranda. The cop tells Charley that he will tell him more if Charley will provide him with a few leads to the case and then the cop leaves.
Charley decides to go out for a while. He tells the maid that when the Master returns to lock him up with silver chains. Charley heads to what looks like a park and takes a seat on a bench, behind him is the Cop Craig eating a hot dog. They begin to discuss the contents of the crate on the plane. There were 21 people in that box made up of arms, buttocks, etc) and they were all of celebrities, politician, and other famous people. Had they not been easily recognizable people they would have had to rely on their DNA but even that was strange. Their DNA had been altered. Craig the Cop shows Charley photos of the people and he notices that they look just like Father Kazan had looked – all gooey and yucky.
Craig the Cop informs Charley that they have no idea how they all died . . . poison perhaps but it’s all pretty odd. He believes that these famous people allowed themselves to be guineas pigs for money in order to receive immorality (it’s just his theory).
The cop stops talking and Charley wants to hear more but that’s all he has to reveal. Craig is waiting for Charley to reveal something important in exchange for the info he provided. Charley tells Craig about Miranda. He mentions that she had developed a taste for blood and how on the day that she died her last words to him were “If I Don’t See You Again . . . Find the Vassalord” Craig says he will look into it. He also states that all these people must have had contact with the same person. This person who sold them an immortality potion or something. Craig’s assumption really shakes up Charley and has him connecting the dots between Miss Miranda, Father Mailer, and Father Kazan.
The cop then turns his attention to Charley. He remarks at how when he looked around Charley’s apartment he didn’t see any food laying around. So now he is curious as to what Charley eats but then decides to drop it and starts to leave. Charley calls out to him asking him why he revealed so much information to him. Craig response that he hopes Charley will be the whistle blower on whatever is going down.
Meanwhile, Rayflo returns to his mansion which he had left 6 months ago. His plan is to enter the residence and destroy all evidence that he and Chris had ever been there. While inside the mansion he takes his time and lounges on the sofa reading then Rayfell enters. He tells Rayflo that he knows what’s really going on. He’s been noticing that ever since Rayflo moved in with Charley he has been avoiding Barry. Rayflo asks if Barry had said anything and Rayfell informs Johnny that Barry had asked where Addie was so that he could send him roses (Johnny Rayflo has so many different names) Rayfell’s information upsets Rayflo and he throws pieces of paper everywhere. Rayfell is a bit surprise by Rayflo’s reaction. He doesn’t understand why Rayflo doesn’t’ like Barry. Apparently, Barry is smart, great in bed, and looks like a beautiful Greek statue (what is there not to love?) but for Rayflo Barry is an irritation.
Rayfell says some “nice” words to Rayflo while flipping him off and says “Eva will say goodnight now. Take care, my knight” (I guess he calls himself Eva) and flies out the window. As the bats of Rayfell are flying into the sky Charley is standing outside the mansion.
***Side Note: In Volume 1 Chapter 1 The Confined Elagabalus during the first few pages Rayflo tells his maid (the one not battling against Charley) to cancel his dinner with Barry. This is most likely the same Barry discussed in this chapter (vol. 2). Barry is probably feeling like Johnny Rayflo is avoiding him or something . . . first he cancels a dinner engagement with him and now it seems like he is avoiding him. Who exactly is this Barry and what “was” his relationship with Johnny?
Let’s hope Chapter 6 Testing Theories provides more answers!
